Know before you start

Important limitations

  • Animated images are processed as a single still frame.
  • Browser encoding results and file sizes vary by device and format; an exact byte size is not guaranteed.
  • Very small targets may require substantial dimension and quality reductions and can remain unreachable.
  • Files above 20 MB or 40 megapixels are rejected to protect browser memory.

Image Compressor FAQ

Are images uploaded?

No. Decoding, resizing, compression, target-size searches, previews, and downloads happen locally in your browser.

Can every image reach an exact target?

No. Browser encoders do not guarantee exact byte sizes. Tool Packer reports success only when the generated file is at or below the limit and otherwise shows the smallest result it found.

What happens to PNG transparency?

Automatic WebP output preserves transparent pixels. JPEG cannot store transparency, so JPEG output uses a white background.
