How to use it

Convert an iPhone photo in three steps

What gets exported

A compatible still-image copy

Tool Packer converts the primary image locally. Motion from a Live Photo, additional HEIF images, depth data, and source metadata are not included in the downloaded copy.

Know before you start

Important limitations

  • Only the primary still image is exported; Live Photo video, image sequences, depth data, and metadata are omitted.
  • Photographic PNG output is often much larger than the HEIC source.
  • High-dynamic-range, high-bit-depth, or wide-gamut source data can be flattened by browser decoding and export.
  • Files above 20 MB, 40 megapixels, or 16,384 pixels on one side are rejected to protect browser memory.

HEIC to PNG Converter FAQ

Is conversion private?

Yes. The HEIC decoder, PNG encoder, preview, and download all run in this browser without sending the file to Tool Packer.

Will PNG improve the original quality?

No. PNG avoids another lossy encode, but it only stores the pixels the HEIC decoder provides and cannot restore discarded or unsupported source information.

Why is the PNG much larger?

PNG uses lossless compression, which is usually less compact than HEIC for photographs.
